South of Loutraki and on the east side of the Peloponnese, Nafplio is a historic, former capital of modern Greece and a place worth visiting. Nafplio, considered one of Greece’s most romantic places to visit, is famous for its old town with its maze of narrow streets, hidden squares and stunning neoclassical mansions. The old city has Venetian architecture and it is offered for a visit year-round.
Nafplio is near Epidaurus and Mycenae and worth squeezing it into your itinerary. At the seafront, facing the medieval fortress Bourtzi, you can enjoy a coffee or a meal. Nafplio is full of fortresses and castles.
